    Default Breastfeeding and Alcohol

I love this site and all of its useful information. It is great to know that most of my issues are common and many of you have had them as well. I gave birth two weeks ago to my first son and breastfeeding is going well. I do have a question about breastfeeding and alcohol comsumption. My lactation consultant in the hospital said it was fine to have a margarita and both my mother and mother in law have lauded the effects of the hops in beer to help with letdown. Is the occastional drink okay while breastfeeding? How much of the alcohol will make it into breastmilk and what are the possible effects for my son? I want to make sure that nothing I do will harm my sweet boy!

    Thanks,
    Emily

An occasional drink is fine. If you drink asap after nursing, that's the best scenario...here's an article.

Mother - Wife - Artist - Cook - Writer - EnvironMENTAList - Cloth Diaperer (but we are soooo done with diapers) - Organic Health Nut...I'm sure there's more.
