Default should nipple still be sore at 3 weeks?

Okay today my baby is three weeks old and my nipples are still sore. They are not bleeding or cracked or anything. It's just the nipple itself and surrounding it that gets sore and red after bf'ing. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, my nipples were sore till after our 6th week. Hang in there. It does get better. I think our nipples are not used to being worked so hard! I found that applying Lansinoh (medical grade lanolin) after each feeding helped the soreness.

If dd eats more than usual, even now, my nipples will still get sore. she is five months. It is also recommended that after feeding, express some extra breastmilk and rub it onto the nipples and let it air dry. It is supposed to help.

Could you tell us a bit more about your nursing pattern? How often does baby eat? What position do you normally feed in? Is baby gaining weight? Growing? Having plenty of wet and poopy diapers?
