I never realized it until I came here, but it seems I have OALD. Since the beginning my baby has been gassy, spit up a lot, and frequently fusses at the breast.
The poor thing learned to compensate by taking a shallower latch and sometimes clamping down to slow the flow, so in the beginning I was in excruciating pain.
His latch has improved and my nipples stopped hurting after 6 weeks or so (I've been nursing for 13 weeks) but it still doesn't look like a "textbook" latch. His top lip is never flanged, it's always tucked in under his gum.
Is it too late to "correct" his latch? If it doesn't hurt, does that mean it's not a problem, or is it just that my nipples have toughened up?
