Hi everyone! My name is Jessica. I am in my 32nd week of pregnancy with my first child, a boy, due 7/13/07.
I began leaking colostrum on 4/1. The first week or so was fine. After that, I began noticing blood in my nursing pads only on my left side. When I expressed the colostrum after my shower the next day, a small amount of blood mixed with colostrum (kind of a rust stained color) came out of one duct, but all the rest were clear or milky.
I told my doctor at my last visit (nearly 2 weeks ago). He did a culture, and it came back fine. He called today to see if it is still happening and it is, but now there is more blood than colostrum (darker color) than was before in that one duct. He said a colleague of his recommended I have a galactogram. It is like a ductography where they inject contrast fluid into the bad duct and then do a mammogram.
He is calling me back when he has more information (later today), but in the meantime I am freaking out! Injecting something into my breast doesn't sound comfortable (not that I care), but it also doesn't sound safe for a lactating mother-to-be. What is this going to do to my colostrum? Could it hurt my baby? Not to mention - who the heck has a mammogram while they're pregnant?? Am I overreacting? Has anyone else had this experience?
I am desperate to find someone who has "been there". Looking for answers and comfort...thanks ladies
