My 13 month old daughter occasionally (over the past couple of months) has been waking with what I think are terrible gas pains. When it happens, it only happens once during the night and after she's been asleep for a few hours.
What happens is, she'll either wake screaming or wake, nurse, and then start screaming (meaning the pain cry). I will try patting her back, rocking her from horizontal to vertical position (worked when she was a little baby), massaging her tummy. Usually I will get breaks in her cry when I try these things.
I think it's gas because I can feel it passing through her system.
Last night, however, nothing worked and she didn't stop crying for about 20 minutes. She just kept writhing in pain until it suddenly went away right when I was ready to call the doctor and rush to the er!
She doesn't eat much solid food and nurses a lot. Yesterday she ate mainly bagel and chicken. This has only happened a handful of times, but I'm concerned and wondering if any of you have experiences anything like this.
I'll see what the advice nurse has to say, too. Thanks much!
