    Question 15 mo increases nursings???

My 15 mo has been nursing more frequently and longer these last few days... I thought maybe it was a growth spurt, but wouldn't she be eating more solids then as well? Also, she was just nursing one side now she wants both??

Is this normal for her age? Or do I have a supply issue going on?

    Thanks

oh - and she had been sleeping through the night - now she wakes up at 5 am and cries until I nurse her... a full nursing ( not a snack ) and then nurses again at 7 when she wakes up????

Is she working on teeth or a new developmental stage?

one of her molars has been really struggling to break out... it has been a few weeks of red and swollen with a white bud...

she is a very cautios little girl and though she is a confident cruiser and has been for months... she is still hesitant about walking... she can do it and does it some of the time, but not consistently. I have read that they go from just starting to walk to confident walker in a matter of days... not so for her... she has been afraid? of walking by herself even though she can...
I just figure it is her personality?

She is also sucking really hard and my let down is taking a while - if I even feel it.

    Hi lilysmommy,
How are you doing today? Some toddlers do pick up their nursing frequency at times. It could be a growth spurt, or her tooth that is bothering her, or she could be on the verge of a breakthrough in walking, or she could be coming down with an illness.... Sometimes we don't find out the "why" until afterward! Are there any other changes going on?
As the months go by, it can be common for mothers to feel the let-down less and less intensely. Is there anything else going on, too, that might make you concerned about your supply?

Hi there -- I just thought I'd let you know that my 15 month old is also just starting to walk. He was a super-fast crawler and cruiser but didn't seem to want to let go. About three weeks ago he started walking giddily between his father and me -- joyfully, in fact -- but has been very slow to take off on his own. I'm also not seeing the rapid transition I've heard about. Now he's starting to do short distances on his own, and longer distances (maybe 12-15 steps) between the two of us, but I haven't seen him take off across a room yet. I got him one of those push toys which he LOVES (its a walk-and-ride train from Chicco) so he does get practice that way, pushing it back and forth enthusiastically around the house. I just figure he's being cautious and taking his own sweet time getting building his confidence slowly. He's happy and curious and learning new things daily, so I'm not worried.

I wouldn't worry too much about the upsurge in nursing, as the PPs said, it could be all sorts of things. Just be happy she's getting the extra good nutrition! My son still nurses a lot.

I guess it could be anything... now yesterday and today so far - I have had to really push nursing and she only goes for a few minutes... still it takes a long time for me to feel my let down.

Also, I just started to do weight watchers again. Not sure if that is decreasing my supply?

What is the average for 15 mo to nurse?

My son is 14 mo and he's all over the place with his nursing. If we are with family for a weekend, he will go hours and hours w/o nursing, then we get home and he picks up again. I'd say on average, he probably nurses 8-10 times in 24 hours, but usually for 5 minutes or less at a times. And, he nurses 2-4 times during the night which also helps the counts.

another thing... I don't know if it relates to this or not... sorry if it is TMI

My periods are really wacky lately - I haven't been ovulating etc... and if I do it is like 2 days before I bleed... and the last one only lasted 1 day??? Very unusual for me ( I usually bleed for 7 days ) I feel like my hormones are way out of wack....

I know that some of this is "normal" , but wondered if such things change supply?

It is probably her just being a 15 mo???

Weight Watchers has a program for nursing mothers. Gradual weight loss should not affect milk supply. There's more info here at this non-LLL site.

Hmmm. As for your period, maybe the up and down frequency (sometimes lots, sometimes less) of nursing would affect fertility like that? Any chance you could be pregnant?
