Default finally - a food that LO likes!

After patiently experimenting with several different solids, we finally found a food that our LO likes - sweet potatos (yams)!

We had previously tried avocado, banana, apple sauce, and yes even a little bit of organic brown rice cereal. All of these LO sort of moved around in his mouth with a very entertaining suspicious look on his face and most of the food he ended up spitting back out.

Yesterday I gave LO some chunks of cooked sweet potato to play with and was pleasantly surprised when he put some in his mouth, looked happy, and then got upset because I wasn't giving him more fast enough!

And as we could tell from the next poopy diaper - LO actually had eaten quite alot of that sweet potato.

Time to go buy some more ...

That is good to hear. Our LO (almost 9 months now) still hates food. We offer her food all the time but she has no interest in it. How did you prepare the sweet potato?

Our LO will be 8 months next week and this is the first food that he's really liked.

I just microwaved the sweet potato in the skin until mushy and then refrigerated it until totally cool. For eating, I brought the sweet potato up to room temperature and then used a spoon to scoop out a bunch of chunks for LO. My LO is too small to reach the tray part of his high chair, so we've been using one of those seats that attaches directly to a table (something like this - but we have a different brand: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...entPage=family)
and letting him feed himself with food that we place on his placemat. I got a placemat with a scoop on front that catches about 90% of the food that would otherwise get on him and the floor as he pulls food towards him: http://www.kiddopotamus.com/p_tiny.php
It was messy but he had a great time grabbing mushy chunks of sweet potato and feeding himself.

I'm trying to model eating and also make meals be social - so I had a little plate of sweet potato that I ate also (and also using my hands). DH doesn't like sweet potato so he had a carrot so he was also eating an orange food.
