Default Help! Plugged duct due to abrupt weaning

Hi, I just weaned my 18-month old daughter. It was very abrupt, more like a nursing strike on her part that i took full advantage of (because i had been wanting to wean for some time). She has not nursed now in 8 days and all of a sudden i find my left breast feels like i have a plugged duct. It is very strange because i was making very little milk anyway, and i just figured i was all dried up -- there was no need to express any milk or anything.

But what do i do about the plugged duct? It is really starting to hurt alot. I took a warm shower & tried to pump it out but with no real luck, and i don't want to pump alot anyway because i don't want to encourage more milk production. If i was still nursing i would just try to get baby to nurse it out but i am not going to give her the breast again now! So i am at a loss -- any suggestions? Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

    hugs,
    catherine

Try warm compresses or soaking in a warm tub or basin.
