Default eating every 3 to 4 hours?

My daughter was born on Feb 2nd, so she is now nine days old. I was told to supplement in the hospital bc I didn't have enough milk and we started using the SNS system. At my daugter's two day appointment the lactation consultant said breastfeed more often and supplement with a bottle only as necessary. My milk is coming in (or maybe is totally in...I'm not sure how to tell) and today i exclusively breastfed during the day, no supplementing. I thought she would want to eat more frequently because of this, but she still only wants to eat every three or even four hours....should I just consider myslef lucky???All these other posts are about babies wanting to eat every hour tohour and a half...I am a first time and very nervous! We have another appointment with the lactation speacialist on Tuesday. Thanks for any advice.

You can gently place her to the breast more often yourself. You can tickle feet to try and wake her up. You can change diapers or clothes, even give a bath. My bb was pretty sleep too.
I would count diapers for 24 hours. You ought to see 5-6 wet disposable diapers or 6-8 cloth diapers.( 2-3 bm's)Sounds like everything is going well, hang in there mama!

I am definately getting mmore than enough wet and dirty diapers, basically one every time I feed her, sometimes one chage before I feed her and another after. The last 2 times I have fed her she eats for about forty minutes and then I chage her and then 30 or 40 minutes later she will eat again and then sleep for three hours or so. I haven't been pumping today because I amalways worried she will wake up right after I pump and then I won't have anything for her. Just first time mommy jitters I guess...

if she got all those wet diapers you don't ned to pump, you don't need anything- all is well. Don't worry.

Definitely consider yourself lucky! lol! My DD is 7 months and just now starting to space her feedings out to every 3-4 hours. You're doing a great job, relax!

One thing that I also found helpful at different points was to count the total number of feedings. You should be in the 8-12 range for 24 hours. You'll do fine! Trust your baby and your body and you'll be all set.

Thanks everyone for all the words of encouragement. I did count the feeding and from 8:30 am yesterday to 10:00 am today she ate ten times, so I guess I am doing ok. I know I keep saying this but this is my first baby so I am just nervous about making sure everything is great for my precious baby. You all have made me feel much better and that what I am doing is ok. Thanks so much!

I found that going to LLL meetings and staying in touch with a "veteran" mom and bfer helped a lot with being nervous and feeling unsure of myself. There's just nothing like a mom telling you, "They won't still be doing this when they are 14," to give you the perspective you need to make it through some days.

sometimes babies will be sleepy the 1st few days and then they will have days when all they want to do is nurse.
    You'll figure it out!
At about 3 weeks they have a growth spurt where they will spend alot of time on the breast.
