Default why can't we shake the milk?

I heard you can't shake expressed but I'm not sure why and if that is the case how do you get to the cream that has separated and is stuck to the sides of the container?

It has been determined that shaking breaks some of the chains of immunities within the breastmilk. Even if you shake, though, breastmilk is still fine for consumption. It is now recommended that you gently swirl the milk, to homogeonize the milk. (I am pretty sure I messed the spelling of that up!)

To get the rest of the "cream" layer off the walls of a storage bottle I gently warm the bottle in my hands or under barely warm (not hot!) running water in the sink. That plus some swirling will mix all the fat back in.

    Warm and swirl.

As a pp stated, it is best not to shake the milk as it can break down the valuable components of milk (not that milk wouldn't be good if you shook it, but it will be best if you don't!). Another fine reason not to shake milk is that it will cause the fat globules in the milk to begin to stick together and then they won't blend back into the milk so well. You end up with little globs of breastmilk butter in your milk.
