When will you have to start going away?

I'm an exclusive pumper, so building up a supply was a bit easier for me - I didn't have to worry about being empty if dd got hungry.

But from personal experience, you create the most milk early in the morning. So that would be a good time to pump and store some.

Also, depending on how long your ds sleeps, you can pump after he goes to bed at night. This will give you more time to fill back up so to speak before he needs to eat again.

Milk can stay in the fridge for up to 8 days if it hasn't been previously frozen. But if you don't need to use it right away, I would just freeze it.

Just make sure your aunt knows all the rules for milk freshness.

Good luck. And thank you for your service.

here's a great resource on handling breast milk & storage:

and here's one to help figure out how much milk your baby will need:

a general rule of thumb is that baby needs 1 to 1.5 oz of milk for every hour away from mom

so - if you're gone for 2 days (48 hours) that would be 48 to 72 oz
