    Default Yeast (Candida) Infection

I am a new mom. My son is 7 weeks old and we have been experiencing problems since the begining. I have a yeast infection, also known as Candida. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how long did it take to clear up? I am following the Candida Protocol as outlined on Dr. Newman's web site.. http://www.thebirthden.com/Newman.html I visit my breast feeding clinic once a week and let me tell you, there has been little change. It has been 7 weeks of hell. My breasts hurt even when I am not feeding. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it get better?

    Hi there
I'm wondering if it's NOT yeast, since 7 weeks of thrush treatment has not solved your problem. Tell me more about this breastfeeding clinic that you visit. Do they have an IBCLC on staff? I'd suggest you get ahold of an IBCLC or a physician who can help to diagnose you properly.

I have been through what we thought was thrush (candida) since November, and my new doc (lactation specialist and IBCLC) thinks it is an intraductal bacterial infection. I second seeing a doctor specializing in lactation and/or IBCLC!
A couple of things tipped her off, since my breastmilk culture was negative for both yeast and bacteria. One, my DD had no thrush symptoms. Two, my breast is constantly tender, even though the worst pain is after feeding. Three, thrush treatment was not working! (I was on diflucan for one month, 200 mg per day), plus APNO and oral GSE, and acidophilus. I was also eating a low carb/sugar diet and washing everything carefully. No luck there.
Anyway, I'm hoping my current antibiotic course helps. I am still taking oral GSE and my probiotic.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

Oh my.. liviing with the pain since November. I don't know how you do it. I too am taking diflucan and using APNO, GSE, acidophilus, and grapefruit seed orally as well. My breasts do feel better but my nipples are very sore. They are raw and very red. Its a burning sensation all the time. I have an appointment at Dr. Newman's clinic on Thursday. Let see what they say. Thank you for the feedback.

I hope your appointment goes well! I'll be interested to hear what they say. As for pain since November, it hasn't been CONSTANT, but gets really bad sometimes after feeding on that side, like last night when I couldn't go back to sleep after feeding my DD at 2 a.m.!
I had saw my doctor this morning and she switched my antibiotic. For pain, I take ibuprofen, put an ice pack on my breast, and try to sleep.
Anyway, hope to hear from you soon (and that it's good news).
