Default Tips on cleaning Medela Advanced PIS?

Any important things to keep in mind that you've learned after using it for some time?

I put all the "horn" parts in a bowl of hot soapy water to help clean out the small parts. I try to remember to put everything in the dishwasher once a week but this doesn't always happen.

Since the milk doesn't touch the tubing, is warm water enough to clean it?

I sterilized my tubing before 1st use and follow the instructions to run the pump with just the tubing attached for a couple minutes to dry out any moisture that may have gotten in the tubing. I'm careful to watch and make sure that milk doesn't get into my pump tubes. I know you can wash / sterlize the tubing but haven't had a need.

Maybe I'm backward, but I've never washed the tubing. The rest of the stuff got rinsed with tap water, then went into the dishwasher.

Good to know. Since the tube never touches the milk I don't think you're backwards at all.

I haven't used my pump yet...so what purpose does the tube serve? Sorry if a dumb question.

It's not a stupid question....There are more parts with pumps, I had to have someone else help me set it up the first time, because it was so complex!

The tubing runs from the pump to the "horn", and thus provides the suction required to pump. It is just air in there, although theoretically, I guess other things could get in there.

    Did I answer your question?

it is very possible to have milk get into the tubing! i sometimes get some milk and condensation in my tubing so i run warm water through it and then let it dry. you can also attach the tubes to the pump by themselves and turn on the pump...this will help the tubes to dry since air will be flowing through the tubes. another quick way to dry the tubes is to pour a little bit of alcohol in the tubes.
