I have a 13 months old DD and I want to wean her, the reason, is, I'd like to try and get pregnant again and since I have to undergo fertility treatments I have to wean her first. I have to say that other then that I would have loved to keep nursing her, we both enjoy it so much, but I'm not so young and I know I can't wait any longer.
The problem is, she doesn't take a bottle, she can handle a sippy cup, but doesn't seem to like it and doesn't drink much of it.
She is small. She weighs less than 18 lb (just at the bottom of the growth chart, while she was at 20% at 6 months). She loves to nurse but she's not big on food. The ped would sometimes remind me that I'm small myself, but then other times would say she's concerned with her weight gain.
What would happen if I stop to breastfeed her all together, would she get enough calories from food/milk?
Right now I nurse her in the morning, before bedtime and I used to nurse her also during the day, once or twice, but I decided to cut the middle of the day feedings, hoping she would be more willing to drink from the sippy cup.
I noticed that if she's really thirsty she can drink well from the sippy cup, but then she can go for hours without drinking.
There are 2 things that I'm worried about. 1. Getting dehydrated.
2. Not getting enough calories/proteins if she doesn't drink enough milk.
I'm just not sure what I should do. Should I keep going with my plan and wean her? Should I wait for a while?
