    Question Milk banking and donating

I've noticed that my freezer is getting crowded with excess breast milk. I was just wondering how one would go about donating breast milk?

Wow - I just got online to post/ask about this and someone else already did.

I also found this website www.nationalmilkbank.org through my birthing centers website.

    Has anyone ever donated before?

I donate milk and highly encourage it. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. They gave me a mini tour and talked about all the babies helped and they have a scrap book... total warm fuzzies!!

I'd love to donate milk and I'm really curious about it as well. Do you have to live near a milk bank to do it? The closest one to me is 2 hours away and that's a bit of a drive with a 5 month old.

I know from the link I posted earlier, that they will provide the material/containers to pump and freeze milk. You can also mail it back to them. I'm trying to figure out all the details.

i do not have that much extra, but from what I read from the advertisements - 2 ounces can feed a preemie for a week.

I'm a donor and average around 100 oz a month, also mine is dairy and soy free, which is hard to find. It is such a great feeling that I am helping another baby!!! The milk bank I donate to has a deal with Fed Ex that ships milk in and out for donors or paitents that are not close to the bank. Just something you would have to contact them about.
