    Baby is 7 days old and my nipples are in so much pain idk how I'm going to feed him throughout the night. The thought of it is scary and overwhelming. I'm so sad. What can I do? Please help!

    Hi bb08. Pain when nursing is not normal, so my best suggestion is to get professional help asap if that is in any way possible- something is not right, and your best chance of fixing this quickly is to get in person help. This means seeing a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) Let me know if you need help finding one in your area. You can also call your local LLL if you have one and talk to someone.

    For tonight, if you feel you just cannot nurse, can you hand express or pump? Give baby what you hand express or pump with a open cup, syringe, or small baby bottle. You must keep taking milk out of your breasts frequently, this is vital.

    Painful nursing usually means a shallow latch. There are many things you can try to help with that, but since it has become so bad you are dreading nursing, I really hope you can get in person help right away. More info to follow:
