I need some help to identify the problem I am having with pumping.
My LO is 4 months and I returned to work 1 month ago. I am pumping 4 times a day and averaging 14 ounces. It is extremely hard work to get these 14 ounces. I pump for 30-40 minutes to get 4.5 ounces. I try double pumping/single pumping, hand expressing, positioning the shield etc.I have replaced all parts and tried different shield sizes, nothing seems to make a difference. (I am pumping with a new Medela Pump in Style. I have made sure all parts and components are in working order, but suction doesn't feel that great. I mean it gets the job done but I use it on the highest setting and barely feel it).
I look at photos of baby while I pump, I try de-stressing techniques etc. I'm eating oatmeal and lactation cookies and chugging water etc. I tried Fungreek (mothers milk tea) and it actually worked great but gave LO horrible gas.
I'm not sure if I have a pumping issue or a supply issue. I lean towards a pumping issue because I have to work so hard to get the milk out and my last 2 ounces or so usually come from hand expression techniques used in tandem with the pump. However, I am considering supply problems because my LO is nursing much longer and far more frequently. He is nursing every 90 min- 2 hours for 45 minutes each time.
I need help because I cant live like this. Its affecting my job spending this much time and attention pumping. When I'm home I feel like I have no time to do anything with is causing stress and anxiety. I also cant ever leave because I have no milk in reserves. I made the decision to supplement with formula two days ago. I fed him 4 ounces and he was happy and did not need to eat again for another 4 hours.
I would love to exclusively BF if I could find a pumping or a supply solution.
*** Please do not tell me to change the flanges... I know haha. I have asked for help on other blogs and this is the only thing anyone ever says....it feels some what patronizing*****
