Unhappy Stabbing Breast Pain after Nursing 13 mo. old

Two nights ago, after nursing my 13 month old, I experienced stabbing pains in the breast she nursed off of. The pains lasted two hours! I would get two or three very sharp pains every minute or so and finally it subsided after ibuprofen and a heating pad. I'm not sure if that is what made the pain go away, or if it would have gone away on its own.
So tonight it's happening again. The pain is already subsiding (after 1 hour), but I am at a loss as to what is causing this. I do not believe it is a plugged duct; I have had those and this is nothing like that. No lump, not hot to the touch, not painful to touch (although the nipple is extremely sensitive -- more than normal), no discoloration, I did not get cold prior to this happening...
    Any ideas???

Thrush? It's a common cause of sudden shooting breast pain in a mom who has been nursing trouble-free for a long time.
