Great news about the insurance co!

If your doc isn't receptive to the idea of using medications to jump start lactation, I would see someone else. I understand the all-natural approach, but it's worthwhile to remember that lactation is a normal state for a woman's body to be in. Before the invention of reliable birth control, most sexually active women were either pregnant or nursing for the entirety of their adult lives. Lactating is what our bodies are designed to do, and if you need a little artificial assistance to get into that normal state, I think it's worth considering.

I don't have time to pull a good source, but sometimes concerns are raised about Domperidone because a warning that the FDA released in the mid 2000s. From what I've read, the concerns arise from studies on male/elderly/already sick folk, so not particularly applicable to women of child bearing age. Please don't take this unsubstantiated ramble from me here on this board-- but this is just to encourage you to look into it a little, and possibly have some papers pre-printed for your doc if this is a concern they raise.

Thanks so much for the encouragement and the info! I am definitely planning/expecting to need Domperidone for this little adventure, and this doc will probably just be my first stop... I'm nervous about the estrogen-progestin stuff I've read about, though.
I can't wait to listen to the podcast!

I wouldn't be too nervous about it. Think about how many women are walking around using estrogen-progestin contraceptives, totally nonchalant about that choice. And about how many women are exposed to sky-high levels of those hormones just through natural events like pregnancy. You wouldn't be doing some crazy weird thing, biologically speaking- though of course you would want to be very alert for possible side-effects!

I too am an adopting mom trying to induce lactation. It's getting so frustrating but I keep on it. I'm post hyst and my birth son is 10, so it has been a long time since I've been on the milk train. I am taking fenugreek and drinking lactation tea, plus an added 50 oz of water. I have started progesterone cream on my breasts and pump 20 minutes every two hours around the clock. Each morning I stay in the shower as long as possible massaging and letting the warm water run on my breasts. Two weeks in, not a drop. Not giving up but some support and encouragement from some like living mommas would be great. I can't take any pharmaceutical meds as after my son was born premie they used reglan to bring my milk in and I developed Tardive dyskinesia. So it's all natural for this momma. I plan to keep trying to pump until our daughter arrives hoping some will let down ( my breasts are getting larger and heavy {and sore}) then I plan to put her on breast immediately and use a lact-aid support. I'm working with a lactation specialist/ midwife. I smell like maple syrup and I'm exhausted. Persistence?
