Thread: Red spots on both aerolas

Default Red spots on both aerolas

I am breastfeeding a 20 month old. In March I had my annual exam, my obgyn noticed a red spot on my aerola under my right nipple. She was concerned about it and referred me to a breast specialist. I saw the breast specialist in April, she wasn't worried about it at all. She said it was from breastfeeding. Now that spot is getting a bit better, but I have the exact same spot on the left nipple. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with anything like this? Makes me think it really is from breastfeeding since it is on both sides, but just need a little reassurance.
The spots don't bother me. They are a 1/2 circle right under the nipple. They follow the line of where his teeth could be, or wondering if it could be from pumping?
    Thanks so much!

So there is no pain, not even when pumping or nursing, or if you touch the area? Is it raised at all?

The are is flat. I would almost describe it as a blister, but defintely no fluid in it. No pain, but it is a little uncomfortable when he is nursing, feels like he is pulling. After I pumped the other day I noticed the ring was exactly around the edge of the red spot.

Maybe friction blisters as described here? (see second paragraph) http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/nipplebleb/
