Default Baby's new teeth causing sore on my nipple

    Hi all,

I have a 10 month old daughter who I have breastfed since birth. For the first 8 weeks or so it was quite painful and I saw several lactation specialists with no real specific advice about the pain (her latch looked pretty good). Anyway, that eventually improved and I have been nursing relatively pain free for 6 months. My daughter got two lower teeth several months ago and that wasn't an issue but now her top two teeth are coming in and the nursing has started to hurt a lot again. I have an abrasion on my left nipple from her top tooth. I have been using lanolin and it's not bleeding yet but I'm afraid it will and it's quite painful. When I try to remove her from the breast to re-latch or pull her chin down, she just clamps down more and ends up biting me. Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

Can you nurse in a different position to 'reverse' the latch? (So her upper teeth hit the breast at a different spot so the same spot does not keep getting rubbed?)

this article has ideas in the section 'not really biting but scraping....' http://kellymom.com/ages/older-infant/biting/
