Reported toxicities have included estrogen-like effects including diffuse mammary nodularity, vaginal bleeding, etc. The most commonly reported event is nervousness, excitation, morning diarrhea, and inability to concentrate. In one case report, germanium, an ingredient in ginseng preparations, produced a significant diuretic resistance. A few other reports have suggested decreased platelet adhesion and increased bleedingrisk with its use. No data was found concerning transfer into human milk. It is recommended that it not be used for more than 6 weeks.
