    Default Recurrent thrush...help!

Hi! I am new to the forums and would love some support/help/advice!
I have a 19 week old son. Both he and I now have thrush...for the fifth time! He has taken Nystatin (spelling?) each time and I have been treated with Diflucan each time. It just keeps coming back. I have tried to keep breastfeeding but I am at my wits end. Also, the nurse last time mentioned something about it possibly being an immune deficiency. The doctor said we wouldn't consider that until we tried treating him with diflucan, but now I can't get it out of my head. I have cleaned and boiled everything, used lotrimin on myself... I am considering stopping nursing to see if once he is treated if it will clear up for good. I need help!

Welcome, and yikes! Recurrent thrush is nasty. But it's not usually a sign of any sort of immune deficiency. I'm really sorry the nurse put that particular bug in your ear. It's so easy for a mom to take a tossed-off comment very much to heart.

I would go ahead with the Diflucan for the baby. Maybe try gentian violet as well: http://www.breastfeedinginc.ca/conte...gename=doc-UGV. And while I know the rigorous hygiene is exhausting, I would keep at it for a bit longer.

Kellymom.com has some good resources on thrush: http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/thrush-resources/
Coolest thing my big girl said recently: "How can you tell the world is moving when you are standing on it?"
Coolest thing my little girl sang recently: "I love dat one-two pupples!"
