I have a very tender, inflamed, raised spot on one side of the tip of my right nipple. It appeared after 4th baby was born and had latch issues for first week. It has appeared on and off for 3 years, in the same spot.
Once it was so painful I went to OB who said it was an infected nipple pore. Antibiotics did help. Another time a different dr said it was inflamed but did not know why.
If I squeeze the nipple stem it bulges but does not appear to be a blister and there is no white spot like a bleb. Just a hard bump that has been there 3 years with recurring on and off pain/tenderness.
It did get better during recent pregnancy. I nursed thru the pregnancy and currently nursing 2 yo and 6 month old.
Any advice is appreciated...I have nursed a total of nearly 10 years and don't know what this could be!
Wow, that sounds super-annoying! I haven't the faintest idea what it could be- maybe a small cyst...? But that's just a wild guess. I'd consider seeing another doc. Maybe a dermatologist would have an idea of what it is.
I do think a cyst best describes it, thank you for the right word! It is just like a small pea under the tip of the nipple, no white spot or blister. Yes, another dr would probably be best!
I just wanted to update in case another mama has a similar issue...
I saw a different gyn/ob yesterday in the same practice I have been going too. She took me much more seriously and thinks it is trapped milk, like a little cyst. She is sending me to a surgeon to have it needle aspirated, as she could not see any opening in the nipple tip that it would come out of.
