Hi ladies, I'm working with a wonderful LC but wanted to put my story out there for some tips.
Basically, my Mom passed 7 days after my son's birth, so breastfeeding management was an issue in the beginning. I still offered him the breast at each feeding and followed with formula. Around 4 months my supply dropped to 20 mls in 7 days. I contacted a LC, who helped me make a plan not only to increase volume, but to get baby back to breast, when he developed an aversion.
One month later and I am making 6 oz per day (yet) and baby is back to breast after much singing and horraying when he'd latch... very funny to watch, but it worked.
He now latches 1-2 times per day, sometimes just a few sucks, and other times, for a few mins.
So, we moved on to the SNS. At first he hated it. Today I was able to consistantly get him to let me put it in his mouth, but he kinda looks at me funny, and turns away. He doesn't get upset, just doesn't know what to do. He is used to the bottle nipple and when I plan the shield in his mouth, he gets confused.
So, it would be a size difference, or maybe it's the fact that the milk leaks all over, i don't know.
Any tips on how I can get him to latch with the SNS?
And tips on getting him to stay latched without SNS? We tend to do best in a dark room in the AM, but either he doesn't wait for let down or once the first happens, he pops off, but still hungry. He is ALWAYS distracted, and it's hard to get him to take the bottle too!
Thank you all!
