Default Return of cycle...did I miss something?

My baby is 5 days shy of turning 9 months old. She eats maybe 1/4 cup of food per day, my guess is about 2 Tbsp on most days. She sleeps with me and nurses for naps. She nurses at least 8x day, sometimes like 12x per day. What's up my getting my period? Did I do something wrong? This stinks! lol

Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong. Return of your fertility cycle can occur at any time while you are breastfeeding. It's a spectrum: some moms get their periods back within a few weeks or months of birth, the average nursing mother gets her period back around 15 months postpartum, and at the other end of the spectrum there are some few women who won't resume cycling until their babies are completely weaned.

Basically, getting your cycle back becomes more and more likely as time goes on. Many moms resume their cycles around the time their babies start solids or start sleeping through the night.
