Default 1 week suddenly refused to latch on

    Hi all,

I'm hoping to get a bit of advice or insight with this problem.

My 1-week old daughter was nursing just fine (not perfect - still have some soreness from her latching) for the past week. However last night, she suddenly keep popping off and latching on the breast and then stop trying altogether from frustration. I ended up pumping and feeding her with syringe.

This morning and the subsequent feeding, she again refuses to latch on - again popping on and off - and then stop trying (not even closing her mouth when breast is put in). She refuses from the very beginning and doesn't change even when the milk start flowing.

I think that my letdown is pretty fast but I don't think it bothered her before. She does seems gassy in general though.

Anything that I should try to encourage her to be back on the breast? Thanks in advanced for the help.

See this article: help, baby won;t nurse! http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/back-to-breast/ try ideas esp. instant reward ideas

And this one on forceful letdown. http://kellymom.com/bf/got-milk/supp.../fast-letdown/ If you think it's forceful letdown DON'T block nurse, not a good idea this young. Use the 'help baby handle the flow' ideas

offer the breast at the earliest cues or even prior to cues. try to nurse very frequently: http://www.llli.org/docs/00000000000...eding_cues.pdf
