    Question Breast to Bottle Transition

    Hello,

I'm a first time mom to an 11 week old beautiful baby girl. I'm in desperate need of some help and advice. I'm returning to work full time in early January and have not been able to transition my baby onto a bottle. She does not want to take it AT ALL. I've been trying one to two bottles every day for the past 3 weeks with EBM. I've managed to get the bottle nipple into her mouth without making her cry but she refuses to suck. The trial sessions can go anywhere from 10 mins to close to an hour but without any successful suck. She cries, gulps (the milk that has come out of the nipple), rolls or chews the nipple. I've tried different bottles, nipples, positions. I've also tried feeding her slightly before her feeding time or slightly past. Neither my husband nor my mom has had any success. She does not take pacifiers either. I'm extremely worried that each day I'm trying is making her more resistant or it may become too late for her to learn to feed from a bottle. Help!
Would trying for a whole day make her more resistant? If she’s hungry enough, would she suck? (I know this is really sad but I would rather that the baby goes through this with her mom than a care giver) Also, what if she never takes onto the bottle? What are my options?

don't be afraid to call your local LLL leader. Lots of moms have this problem.
She might be able to give you a name of a working mom in your area that has a baby about the same age as yours. IT helps to have a friend to talk to that has been there done that.

You may want to try different types of bottles. My LO will only take a "Breastflow" bottle from me http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ntPa ge=search and she will onlt take "Dr. Brown's" bottles from my husband http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...entPage=family. SHe has refused Advent, Evenflow and playtex vent air bottles fom both of us. You may just need to find the one for your LO.

    Good luck!
