I also found that as I was introducing solids, knowing that breastmilk was perfect nutrition and there was no way for me to screw it up, took the pressure completely off in terms of introduction and exploring them between 6 months and a year. And made that process really much more enjoyable for both of us.
I soooo agree with this. Introducing solids is not fun for mom or baby when mom is scared baby is starving.

I don't know. But I expect it's something that would come down the pike in your communication No?

The AAP's 2012 policy statement still says exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months, a 1 year minimum, and "as long thereafter as mutually desired." I suspect that they're terrified of telling people it's a 2 year minimum when most people still see the 1 year recommendation as too daunting.
Coolest thing my big girl said recently: "How can you tell the world is moving when you are standing on it?"
Coolest thing my little girl sang recently: "I love dat one-two pupples!"

Or, maybe they're terrified of angering formula makers (eg, Abbott Nutrition - Similac - and Nestle), since these are amongst their corporate donors, according to the AAP's website: http://www.aap.org/en-us/about-the-a...7s-Circle.aspx

OK, I keep 'hearing' they are going to change this to be more in line with WHO and some other orgs but it never happens. But I have no idea how often they update feeding recommendations or add to them.
