Unhappy Is baby not feeding enough and sleeping too much?

My baby is three days old and seems to be sleepy alll the time. He awakes after long periods of times (between 2-3 hours sometimes) but only feeds for about 10-30 mins before falling back to sleep. Any help/advise? Is this normal? I'm worried.

Congrats and welcome to the forum!

This is entirely normal but you do what to make sure baby is nursing very frequently, at least 10 times a day typically in the early weeks. Some babies are a little too sleepy in the early days, and have to be awoken to nurse. But baby being sleepy in general at this age, and nursing to sleep, is normal.

You can to watch babies output (poops) to help figure out if baby is getting enough. and if you keep baby with you, held by you, either skin to skin or lightly dressed, most of the time, this may encourage more frequent nursing.

congrats mama! i agree with pp. tickling feet and jaw can also help baby stay awake at the breast, and doing a diaper change between breasts as well.

Also, keep the lights turned down. New babies often close their eyes in response to bright light, and once their eyes are closed, they are on their way to sleepyland.
Coolest thing my big girl said recently: "How can you tell the world is moving when you are standing on it?"

First of all congrats! I went through the same thing with my little guy. It was so hard to get him to wake up some times! My husband would help me tickle his feet while I was nursing. He usually had to be stripped down his diaper, doing skin to skin with me. That helped tons!
