I am sure many of you already know this, but a lactation consultant today just showed me something I did not know, and I wanted to share!!
If you've ever gotten the parts kit for the Symphony (if you pumped in the hospital, or, I assume you also get it if you rent the Symphony) it comes with this manual pump that I believe is supposed to be the piston part for the Lactina, the other hospital pump from Medela.
BUT that thing can also can function as a hand pump, which I figured out when I was playing around with it one day. What I didn't know is that you don't have to connect the tubing at all, the piston part just screws directly onto the connector part (the part between the flange and the valve). THAT is why there are threads on that larger opening that contains the attachment point for the tubing (I had always wondered that).
