I have been back at work for a couple of weeks now. I only work m-f 8-3:30. I am pumping at 9:20 and 12:20 for about 15 minutes. I have noticed that I get way more in the morning than I do in the afternoon pumping session. The morning is anywhere from 6-9 oz from both breasts but the afternoon is only around 4 maybe 5 oz. Is there a reason these are so different? my daughter is 4 months.
I don't know the why behind it, but from what I understand most people do tend to pump the most in the morning. I will often get between 7 and 10 ounces in the morning, but then more like 4 in the afternoon.
You make the most milk in the morning (high prolactin levels), so it's common to get more pump output in the morning compared to later in the day. Completely normal!
You have really good pump output, by the way. The goal is 1 to 1 1/2 oz per hour. So in 7.5 hours you want 8 to 12 oz, which is exactly what you're getting, sometimes even more it sounds like.
