My little girl was born at 35 weeks on September 14th at a big 8lbs and it took her a good month to regain her birthweight. So she's 7 weeks, technically. I was hoping she'd wake up a little more by her EDD, but alas! We had a couple days here and there of good BFing, but overall I just keep pumping like crazy.

I offer her the breast mostly for comfort sucking (I am thankful that she actually needs it to fall asleep...at least she likes me!) and practice before and after her bottle. I also let her nurse all night as we bedshare. I won't lie, I have wanted to give up almost every day. But I also keep holding on to hope that one day she won't be so lazy and sleepy and it will just click.
If your baby will latch and is gaining well it might be time to go for it. Pick a day when you won't have anything to do and you can dedicate to laying in bed all day. And just toss the bottles. There will be tears, but it's time for baby to learn milk comes from the breast and not a bottle. I had this day with each of mine once they learned to actually latch on. Lay in bed naked all day and just offer the breast.

We actually did this on Halloween and she did awesome. BUT the next day she seemed really tired out and didn't meet her diaper goal. So I'm guessing the combo of me having barely enough supply and her having a weak suck are sort of still against us right now. I'm STILL waiting for my domperidone to show up. :/

I am also struggling with a similar situation...glad to know we are not alone! Baby girl born 2.5 weeks early. Sleeps round the clock, no hunger cues, will mouth nipple but not really suck. Had to start supplementing on day 2 BC she lost 10% birth weight so our feedings involve syringes and tubes. Went to lactation specialist yesterday and now she is down 11.5% despite all the breast milk and formula they are having us give her. Funny thing is the little stinker perked up at the office and actually sucked 15 mil out of me! Then we came home and every feeding she has shown no interest in the breast at all. We are spending day in bed skin to skin which is lovely but still no bf:-) of course I am not withholding food from her' but like you all said offering the breast. I am having a really hard time finding a good position for us. I had an unexpected c section - also a factor in all this I have no doubt - so I can't lay her down on top of me. We've been mostlytrying cross cradle and clutch neither of which works for us. Any tips there greatly appreciated!anyway since the question here was about bottles - wondering about medela calma, recommended by the lactation specialist. I was totally opposed to bottles but this finger feeding crap is going to send my husband and I over the edge! Calma is supposed to make them suck to get milk, so then our next issue is that towards the end of the feeding it can be really hard to get her to take the last10 mil and she has to have it BC of the weight loss. So is there another bottle I can use? Very concerned about using a bottle before bf is established. I was given tommee tippeebottles as a gift any thoughts on those?
