Thread: Mastitis

    Default Mastitis

I woke up early hours of yesterday morning with sympotms of Mastitis. My left breast engorged, red, lumpy areas and I had cold like sympotms. I went to the G.P whom has prescribed antibotics for seven days. I am still feeding off the breast and expressing after feeds.
Is there anything else I can do?

Ugh, mastitis is awful. I'm so sorry you're sick.

To answer your question: Yes!! In addition to continuing to nurse on that side as much as possible and pumping if necessary to really empty the breast, warm wet compresses on that breast, and massage - while nursing, pumping, and at other times - can really make a difference. Lots of helpful suggestions on this site - in order to feel better as soon as possible, I would recommend you follow pretty much all of them. http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/mastitis/
