If your LO screams every time you put him down, I would try never putting him down. Both my kids wouldn't tolerate being put down in a stationary crib. They'd start fussing within a few minutes. So I either carried them around in a sling or put them down in a swing- my eldest napped in the swing until she was a year old!
Coolest thing my big girl said recently: "How can you tell the world is moving when you are standing on it?"
Coolest thing my little girl sang recently: "I love dat one-two pupples!"

Are you making sure that he's in a deep sleep state when you put him down? It takes 15-20 for babies to get into a deep sleep. Look for relaxed, non twitchy facial muscles and limp limbs before attempting to put him down. That being said my son has never been able to be put down or passed off while sleeping. He's simply very sensitive. Ican sneak away if I sidelay and nurse him to sleep though. Do you have a sling that you can nurse in?
