Thread: Supply issue in one breast

Default Supply issue in one breast

I'm having an issue producing milk on one side. I pump and nurse. My left breast will produce easily 4oz and my right struggles to produce between 1.5-2oz per session. Not sure if this is correctable. Thanks!

This link covers lopsidedness and what to do about it: http://kellymom.com/bf/got-milk/lopsided/

Just FYI, when milk supply is well-matched to demand, most moms will pump about 1.5 oz per hour from both breasts COMBINED. Getting 5.5 - 6 oz from a single pumping session implies that your supply may be somewhat in excess of what is really needed. Are you pumping at work, or pumping in addition to nursing when home with your baby? If pumping at work, then no worries- just check out the kellymom link above for strategies which will help you even things out. If you're home with your baby, please share what has led you to pump- if there's some sort of problem other than lopsidedness, we may be able to help you solve it!
