Thread: Rebuilding milk supply after surgery

Default Rebuilding milk supply after surgery

I have an 8 month old who has nursed like a champ since day 1. However, I recently had two surgeries (in about a two month period). I pumped both times while recovering but this most recent surgery I had a difficult and long recovery (separated from him for almost a week). Pumping was sporadic and not at all productive. My milk supply is sparse and I'm having to supplement with formula. Can my milk supply be recovered/rebuilt?

Yes, milk supply can be increased at any time. Women can even relactate from scratch. You're a lot farther along than that! Most likely all you need to do is to gradually reduce the amount of formula you are using while nursing and pumping as much as possible.
