do "non-comfort nursers" wean earlier?

Our 10 month old DD has never been a comfort nurser. (Unlike our first DD who was and weaned at 2 1/2 years when I got pregnant with our now 10 month old). She is all business when it comes to nursing...on and off in 3 minutes usually...one sided nurser...prefers her pacifier to the nipple to lull her to sleep. That being said, she never took a bottle (I had to go to 1/2 days at work so I could be here to nurse her) and she doesn't drink from a cup. I'm wondering if she will wean earlier because she doesn't need the comfort of the breast.

On a second note, she is nursing much less these last few weeks as she is trying to get her top teeth through. Her suck/latch is weaker (like she is just licking the nipple and not actively sucking from it) and she is only nursing once at night now. It's definitely uncomfortable for her. I'm afraid my supply will dip and she doesn't get liquids from anything but me. Should I pump (I'm afraid to do that in case she wants to nurse) or just go with it? We BLW and she take a little bit that way, but not much. Thanks

I woudn't worry about pumping to keep up your supply. She'll start nursing more again when the teeth are through. How are her wet diapers doing?

I don't know if she will wean early. I've worried about that with my second daughter, but she's now 18 months old and doesn't show any signs of stopping anytime soon. My first daughter was a lot more attached to nursing than my second daughter was, but it seems like she started to get more attached to it after she was over a year.

I had the same questions about my eleven month old! She'll nurse for a little during the day like she is playing; she'll really latch on when she's tired but I wonder if she's eating enough? To the pp: Will she just quit nursing? Or will the new milk from baby number three cause her to really eat? Sorry to just plunge in here but I have very similar questions

newboob - are you asking if your 11 month old baby will wean on her own because the milk is gone since you are pregnant? Are you pregnant? Maybe she will wean on her own, maybe not, maybe you will tandem nurse with the next baby - if that is indeed what you are asking. My first daughter did not slow down with her nursing when the milk went away when I was pregnant with her sister. But she was a huge comfort nurser and would probably still be nursing now if I hadn't gotten pregnant and felt the need to wean her then. My baby was not a huge comfort nurser as an infant, but she is becoming that way as a toddler. She doesn't nurse as much or as long as her sister did at this age, and is generally easily distracted from nursing when necessary.

I don't think you can know that when your baby is 10 mos old (when she'll wean). My daughter was just coming off a 4-5 month nursing strike and not nursing very much by 9 mos from that, and I really wanted to nurse till she was two. Well, now she just turned 3 and loves to nurse. She really got more into it after her first birthday. I've nursed her through two pregnancies that each lasted about 11 weeks and even though I have just a few drops of milk, she still loves to nurse. I have no idea when she'll wean but there is no way at 8 or 10 months or even at 2 yrs old I would have guessed she would be nursing now.

My third kid was a non-comfort nurser and nursed the longest, even though I was pregnant. He stayed on his same schedule. To this day, he is very change-resistant
