Default Comfort Nursing Change / Feels Weird?

LO has been weaned off the nipple shield since this past Monday (the 16th). He turned 4 weeks old yesterday (the 20th), and as of yesterday, he started this odd way of comfort nursing. When he's not actually eating, he doesn't suckle on the areola...he is tongue flicking my nipple.

My nipple is irritated while he does this, and he's doing this the entire duration of his comfort nursing, which is hours cumulative throughout the day...

Any suggestions on this? Thank you in advance!

Google is a scary thing, it's talking about tongue-tie and nipple flicking...however, since he just started this yesterday?? and only when comfort nursing, not while eating...I'm very curious.

If your baby is transferring milk well and nursing is comfortable other than this one thing, then I wouldn't be overly concerned about tongue tie. My son did some aggravating things while nursing from time to time when he was very little. As soon as he would start doing something that really bothered me, I would stick my finger in his mouth to break the latch and then relatch him. Often he would start sucking normally again after relatching.

Take him off and relatch him. He isn't TT. He has just slipped down and isn't sucking right. Comfort nursing should not be irritating.
