Actually, nursing on just one breast at time is much better for OS/OALD (from what you said you are pumping in another thread, you are dealing with an oversupply too). My baby didn't spit up quite so much when I started nursing him on just one breast for a feeding. Of course you can offer the other breast if your baby still seems hungry, but I would have him nurse as long s he pleases on just one breast. Nursing in a reclined position helped me the most with my OALD. Nursing very frequently is also very helpful.
Because, as she said, "letting him nurse for 45 minutes is TOO long!"
Is there any stock to that?
That is simply ridiculous. It is even more ridiculous considering your baby is getting over some difficulties transferring milk effectively.
Let your baby nurse as long as he likes.
Her reason was that he isn't gaining massive amounts of weight [2 lb in a week], and that he would be getting more milk in the first 10-15 minutes of each breast, it would train him to shorter/more productive feeds.
No, it would just result in him taking in less milk. Babies get more efficient on their own. Trying to force that on them is dangerous. And if your baby really gained 2 pounds in a week, then weight gain is way more than enough.
I'd like to get a LLL leaders opinion on it since i'd be more inclined to believe someone whose business is breastfeeding than a doctor.
I'm not a leader, but I'm sure one will weigh in.
Also..she said I needed to lay him down by himself for naps, so he can become independent.
^^^was a total wtf thing for me^^^
I would ask what medical research she is basing that on. I think that is totally absurd. My son is extremely independent, and I have nursed and rocked him to sleep since birth.
