    Default Worried Something is wrong...

Good morning everyone. my LO is 1 month old now.. I have OALD and my LO and I have learned to work with it. But in the last week she has choked after she has finished eating. sometimes she makes a noise when she breathes in that sounds like she isn't getting enough air.She only makes the noise once, but she is doing it more times throughout the day now. more than once she has started gagging on spit up along with the sound. have you ever seen a dog vomit? their whole body moves... well, I was nursing this morning and she started to do that.. so i sat her up straight and after a few pats on the back she stopped. but she never spit up with it nor did i hear her swallow anything back down ( which usually happens when she gags during nursing or gags on spit up) she did not cry or get upset when this happened..

I do not think she was feeling well yesterday. she cried alot and there wasn't much i could do to sooth her.. she was also crying while feeding.. she would latch on and then unlatch to let out a squeal. it went on like that for most of the late afternoon and evening till she finally fell asleep around midnight.. and then slept for almost a 5 hour stretch. she also seemed hot yesterday, but her temp under the arm was 98.1. How much does what you eat effect them? I was worried that I ate something that bothered her.

I felt like we have been doing well that last 2 weeks nursing, but between this noise and her gagging or choking not sure what to define it as) I'm wondering if something in my milk is bothering her. I also noticed when she unlatches sometimes my milk looks like a string coming from her mouth to me. is that normal?

I bet it's just the OS and OALD. It will improve and then get worse again. Go back to basic measures and keep working on it

If she's been sick, it's quite possible that her tummy is upset and that from time to time she's on the verge of throwing up. That can make baby exhibit symptoms similar to what babies do when mom has OALD, or make their reaction to her OALD worse.

The only thing that concerns me from your post is that you say that "sometimes she makes a noise when she breathes in that sounds like she isn't getting enough air.She only makes the noise once, but she is doing it more times throughout the day now. more than once she has started gagging on spit up along with the sound". That description sounds a little bit like pertussis (whopping cough), so please take a listen to a clip of what pertussis sounds like and make sure your baby doesn't have it. There's one here: http://www.soundsofpertussis.com/wha...74346230179071

ETA: I totally DO NOT mean to scare you about pertussis, mama! I am sure your LO doesn't have it. I just am something of a nervous nelly about stuff like that.

so i went on to listen to the sound. minus the coughing inbetween breaths, it sounds just like what she's doing. I'm sick to my stomach. she has an appt at 2 and it couldn't come fast enough. i haven't gotten vaccinated and now i could be responsible.. wicked stressed.. having trouble not crying right now..

Call your child's doctor please and see what he/she says. Sorry I didn't notice you had the appt at 2, I hope it goes well, I'm glad you're seeing doctor today.

so we went to the doctor's.. doc said it's not pertussis.. lungs sound good... doc said that gagging is all from the oald.. (which by the way.. LO was nursing after appt and unlatched. milk literally poured out... lol. not just a small stream) she said the sound could sound similar to to pertussis, but it's just her a result of babies lungs still developing.. i feel soo much better!

no don't be sorry. it did sound alot like it. i'm happy it's not the case. I thought something i ate may have bothered her yesterday.. but she was screaming tonight just like she had last night around 8-9. I'm not sure what's going on with her. she also had a bowel movement that went up her back. I'm not sure what to do to make her feel better.. she wakes up screaming. there's no build up to her being upset.. she just wakes up that way. I can't calm her down to nurse. It's moments like these that I think about giving up. I worry so much for when i go back to work. i will be at work 2 nights and what if she acts like this with my dad. I know breast is best.... but it just seems like formula and a bottle are so much easier.
