We survived my first 2 days back at work and I am now looking forward to a weekend at home with DS
I am looking for advice from other working mothers on whether or not I should try to put DS on a feeding schedule. Up to now I have always fed on demand. Currently I am working 2.5 hours in the morning, home for a 2 hour lunch break and then back to work for 3 hours. DS ate 2-3oz from a bottle during the times I was working. Ideally if I go to work for 10am I would like to nurse at around 9:15 so that DS is well fed before I leave. Unfortunately, convincing him to eat at the time is not so easy!
If he is napping at 9:15 should I wake him? If he wants to eat at 8:30 should I try to distract him and wait? The same at lunch time, I would like to feed him before I return to work so that he isn't screaming for his bottle as soon as I leave. At lunch times and evenings he wants to eat as soon as I get home, independent of how long ago he finished the bottle. But he only wants to nurse for a few minutes. His usual pattern is to nurse for 20-40 minutes. I suspect this is more to do with comfort than eating. But at lunch times it felt like he never really nursed properly which was disappointing to me. He nursed for a few minutes when I got home and then again a quick snack about an hour later. Is it better for him to have one long nursing session rather than a couple of snacks? Should I write up a plan on when he should nurse, take a bottle and nap during the working day?
What works for other working moms out there?
