    Default Weaning

My IVF doctor does not allow breastfeeding when tryig to conceive. I want to start slowly. I have read contradicting info how to do. I am lost!!!

She still nurses eery 4 hours during the day and 1-2 at night. SO I figured I will cut out one day session and give her milk because she will ask to nurse. Is this wrong?

How old is your LO, now? Your siggy says 10 months, and until a year you don't want to cut out any nursing sessions since breastmilk (or formula) is supposed to be the baby's majority source of nutrition. And you're not supposed to introduce cow's milk until the one year mark- though recommendations on that subject are somewhat conflicting.

When weaning, it's usually easier to cut out the night nursing sessions than the daytime ones, since babies fuss less about skipping a nursing session when sleepy and relaxed. So I personally would start there.

Have you thought about seeking a second opinion from a different doc? Maybe you don't need to wean.

Is there some reason you can't wait until after her 1st B-day to begin TTC? Or is that what you are planning on doing?

Does she like cow's milk? A friend of mine weaned by substituting a yogurt smoothie for a different nursing session every week. Her daughter was fully weaned by 13 months. She had night-weaned her at 5 months and so she just had daytime nursing to wean from. The smoothies were made with vanilla whole milk yogurt, V8 fusion juice, baby cereal (for the vitamins?), fruit, avocado and veggies. Her daughter really loved the smoothies.

Have you seen the Dr. Jay Gordon plan for night weaning?

My daughter will be one in 9 days. I figured 9 days wont do any harm if I start supplementing now. She wakes at night, and it really doesnt bother me. I figured I would try to cut out 1 day session now.
I did try whole milk today and she wasn't having it. DH tried to give her an ounce and she still said no. I used a sippy cup and a bottle. I like the smoothie idea. I tried Dr. Jay's a month ago and I gave up after three days. She was really upset and I couldnt do it to her. Waking up 1-2 times is okay.

Yes, the nightwakings at her age are very normal. She may start to wake more often to nurse when her molars start coming in.

For several weeks - molars can take forever to come in.
