I had to express very early on after my LO was born and have been expressing regularly ever since to build up a supply so others could also feed. I breastfed as well as fed her expressed milk until she was strong enough to be fully breastfed. Even though she was fully breastfed I continued to express once a day for storage purposes. I was told to feed/express 10 mins each side...wish I knew then what I know now!
When LO turned 5 weeks, I realized through the forums that I had built up my milk too much as now I have too much foremilk and LO has green runny poo among other symptoms that fit.
I am trying to reduce my supply, and I am having a very tough time getting this sorted. My right side is the worst, sometimes producing twice as much as the left. So for feeding now, I alternate between the left side for one feed and expressed milk for the next feed (stored expressed milk is prior to oversupply so foremilk and hindmilk is ok). My right side is so full it hurts, and has been this way for 4 days now. I have been expressing from it just enough to relieve the pain, but it just swells up again within the hour...How long does it take for the body to respond to a reduction in milk supply?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated!
