I was on here at the beginning of February. My LO got a sore throat and stopped nursing well if at all during the day. She also slowed down her weight gain. I didn't pump every missed feeding in the beginning because I had oversupply and we were trying to eliminate the OALD too. I honestly feel like my supply is okay.
She was doing better, but now I feel like she's regressed some. And she only gained 1.5 oz in 7 days. I weigh her on the same scale at my health dept.
The IBCLC I've been seeing plotted her weight and she is still trending. Just slowly.
She's just not a demanding baby AT ALL. She sucks her thumb. She doesn't get any bottles because I'm too scared she'll get used to the flow and reject nursing completely. We bed share half the night and she sleeps in her co-sleeper the rest of the night. She's a very active baby. She's hitting all her milestones.
I've been doing all the things on that kellymom website. I can't wear her when she sleeps because she gets so mad if she's tired in there. She would rather be swaddled and left to suck her thumb and grunt to sleep. She gets mad if I try to nurse her, bounce her, or anything to sleep.
It would make me feel much better if I could get some extra milk into her. The IBCLC is starting to say she might have me talk to my pediatrician. As of now, I've just been working with the LC.
My question is this. How can I get more milk into her other than a bottle? I did syringe feeding when this all began but it took forever and she wouldn't take more than an oz. Should I get an SNS just for the tubing? When she was doing really bad, she would let me slip the syringe in her mouth along with her thumb and would take some that way.
Here's the baby's weight history (not always on the same scale)
11/26/11 8 lbs 10 oz
11/29/11 7 lbs 14 oz
12/02/11 8 lbs 9 oz
01/06/12 10 lbs 10 oz
02/01/12 sore throat/strike began
02/06/12 11 lbs 14 oz
02/10/12 11 lbs 12 oz
02/15/12 11 lbs 12 oz
02/17/12 12 lbs
02/29/12 12 lbs 3.5 oz
03/07/12 12 lbs 8.5 oz
03/14/12 12 lbs 10 oz
She nurses every 3 hours at night on her own usually, but if not, I wake her up. During the day I offer every two hours or so. If she's sleepy and groggy, she nurses a little bit. A full 5-10 minute feeding is cause for celebration.
I am a small person. I'm 3.5 months pp and I'm 116 lbs and 5'7". My husband is short but does not have a lanky build. He has an avg build I'd say.
So I need ideas on how to beef her up. And opinions on whether or not I even need to. The IBCLC was fine up until now, but now she's suggesting weighing twice a week and possible talking to the pedi. And it's making me nervous.
The pedi was not worried at all from 02/06/11 - 02/29/11. And still isn't worried but we haven't been back either.
Thanks!
ETA: Just now, it's been 3 hours since she nursed well at 7:30 AM, I got her up without her waking up all the way and put her to breast and she did suck until I had a letdown and continued nursing for a minute or so but then she woke up all the way and looked up at me and stopped nursing. So since she didn't take a full feeding, I'm compelled to offer again in like an hour. Or should I not? And should I pump? Or not if I'm going to offer again in an hour?
ETA again: she has only ever nursed on one side. In case that helps with the pumping question.
