Re: Going back to work/ pumping question
Hi there! I think you're not going to have any trouble getting enough milk while you are away. How many hours total will you be away from her? The general rule of thumb is to leave 1 to 1.5 ounces per hour while you are away.
5 ounces is quite a bit to get out of one side at once. And 3.5 ounces total in addition to that while you are also nursing the baby full time is A LOT to get out as well. She generally needs 25ish ounces a day and you are getting 8.5 ounces a day on top of that - and you're not even pumping while away from her then.
I pumped about every 3 to 4 hours. So I would pump right when I got to work and then 3 hours later and then 3 or four hours later again. I am away from my baby for 10.5 hours (although it could be 12 hours from nursing to nursing) and she never took more than 16 ounces in a day that entire time. She usually took around 12 ounces.
I would definitely nurse when you go home instead of pumping! That's great that you will be able to do that.
