Default Wrong size of the breast shield?

I'm starting to use my pump (PISA) more and the standard breast shields are definitely hurting my nipples (vasospasm). In addition, I'm often having a tough time keeping a tight seal between my breast and the shield.

According to Medela's website (http://www.medela.com/IW/en/breastfe...astshield.html), pain means I need a larger size shield, but absence of a tight seal means I need a smaller size.

    Any advice?

Try lubing your nipples with some olive oil. If the fit is just marginally too small, that may allow the nipple to slide freely and reduce pain. But definitely try a larger size!

Another thought- sometimes a mom finds that she must lean forward into the pump, or the weight of her breasts dragging down causes the loss of a tight seal. So try that, too!

You might be surprised about the seal. I should, according to all the charts and two IBCLCs, need a 27. But the 36 fits better. If the lube doesn't help, the sizing up might.
