    Unhappy Pumping and Jury Duty

How am i to do this? I've been called for jury duty on Valentine's Day (perfect). If it doesn't get settled by then, am i going to have leverage to pump and how would I store it all day? (just trying to be prepared)

You should be able to get out of it because you are breastfeeding. I got out of mine when ds was an infant because of that.

Do you call ahead or show up and tell them?

You write a letter explaining you are a mom who is exclusively breastfeeding. I said that if I was forced to attend jury duty I would require a place to pump every 2.5 hours. The court won't provide this. The fact that you are nursing will get you off the hook.

There should be a place on the letter you got sent that details a place to send info if you believe you cannot serve.

Yes, you should get confirmation that you're excused (I have a letter stating such from when I was excused).

My forms actually have a place where you can check "breastfeeding" and get a postponement. I would write a letter. If it's too late for that, show up and tell them. You should be excused, no further questions asked. In CA that excuse works for up to a year, so expect them to call you back in a year from now, pronto.

Not sure how Missouri works. Maybe there's info out there?

Twelve states and Puerto Rico exempt breastfeeding mothers from jury duty. (California, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon and Virginia.)
That's from the LLL's page on state breastfeeding laws. So Missouri doesn't have a specific exemption like CA. However, I still think it's grounds for exemption. You may have to show up and plead your case to the judge. I would be shocked and amazed if they didn't excuse you based on those grounds - I would assume most judges wouldn't want to touch this issue with a 10 foot pole.
