DS doubled his birth weight @ 3 months. He is now 4 months old, grew 2 inches in the last month (!), plus gained another 2 pounds.
He has always nursed every two hours or so, morning and night. My body seems to have adapted to the interrupted sleep and lack of sleep in general, so I'm not looking for a "solution" - I actually don't see the frequent feedings as a "problem". Especially when I see how much DS is growing - he's in the 97th percentile for height, 75th for weight.
Pediatrician wants me to start rice cereal. Says if I don't, he'll continue to wake every 2 hours, or even more frequently. (Is that a bad thing for baby? I'm not really concerned about myself.) And that there's a possibility he'll develop reflux issues since the the frequent / large intake of liquid may start to be too much for his stomach to handle. Supposedly the cereal will fill his tummy more effectively, if I understood correctly, and make him sleep a little more at night.
Finally, pedi says that on breastmilk alone, DS won't be able to continue to gain weight in a proportion that matches the rate at which he's growing (height). Says ideally if he's in 97th for height, he should be close to that in weight also.
I told the pediatrician that DS still can't sit up, and he still thrusts his tongue, so I didn't think he was ready for rice cereal yet. Response: he doesn't even have to be sitting, I can have him in the car seat, bouncer, whatever works.
I don't really know why I'm questioning the rice cereal, I just don't feel ready for it, but maybe I'm being irrational.
Any thoughts out there?
