    Question Vanilla extract for teething?

I have heard of rubbing vanilla on a babies gums for teething pains. I was just wondering if it is safe. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I would imagine they are suggesting that because of the alcohol base that the extract would be in. In which case, you may as well do whiskey or vodka like they did back in my day.

I would suggest Motrin/Tylenol/Hyland's Teething Tablets and frozen teething rings.

Thanks. I guess the alcohol is what I was worried about. Thank you for your advice.

No prob. Very early on I hesitated to dose with the Motrin/Tylenol. Now, I wish I'd just done it sooner.

Those teething tablets are little miracles though!!!!

I'd never heard this one. I'd heard clove oil though.

I'd do Tylenon and/or Motrin instead though. Those are safe. Alcohol...well...I have my doubts. One of my kids got Motrin and Tylenol every night for a year or we were all up all night instead of just 9 times. Teething can really really hurt some kids.

I agree with the pp, however Hylands teething tablets have been pulled from the market but are now back! So exciting! These always helped us.

Not to hijack this thread, but why were Hylands pulled? I've been looking for them, and I borrowed some my SIL had last year. A little concerned now!

They supposedly had too much belladonna in them. But they are still homeopathic. So I don't really get that.

I bought some Hyland's recently and as soon as my DH saw the belladonna ingredient he vetoed them! I'm bummed since my DD is a crabby teether right now.

Thank you ladies, you are all wonderful. I think I will try the tylenol or motrin. My DH and I don't like the idea of the belladonna, looked it up on wikapedia. Thanks again and have a blessed new year.
